Celebrating The Furniture Today’s Top 100
On May 11, 1981 Furniture Today introduced its first national ranking of furniture stores. Presented under the title: “Nation’s foremost furniture retailers in 4 categories,” it listed retailers based on annual sales in four dollar ranges: Furniture Retailers with more than $100 million in sales; Furniture Retailers with $50 to $99 million in sales; Furniture Retailers with $25 to $49 million in sales; and Furniture Retailers with $1 to $24 million in sales.
Over time the list would evolve, incorporating new segments of business such as mattress specialty stores, lifestyle stores and department stores and would soon take its current form as a ranking of the Top 100 furniture and bedding stores in the U.S.
Furniture Today’s Top 100 has established itself in the history of the furniture industry and today is often used as store classification to describe furniture operations of a particular size and scope.
To celebrate this prestigious list and the venerable retailers it represents, Furniture Today is proud to announce honorees for the Top 100!
